Painless User Experience is Better Than Great User Experience

Let’s start today’s blog with a famous Aristotle comment:

“The aim of the wise is not to secure pleasure, but to avoid pain.” – Aristotle

There is so much wisdom in that saying when it comes to web design and usability. Being a designer, I frequently look for that special button / graphic / tool that is just awesome. No questions asked, when a user see’s it he will be blown away! But let’s be honest with ourselves, how often do we have that same passion when it comes to elimintating user frustration. I know I dont.

Good designers, not just web but in all walks of life, often seek that “blow you away” moment. With user interface, that’s especially the case. We seek creative navigation, fun HTML5 builds, unique CSS layouts but often forget to ask – how do I make this painless – not nescessarilty pleasurable.

What are your thoughts?
